SPF, PA ratings, white cast and texture explained — so you can find a daily sunscreen that suits your skin and our climate.

The best sunscreen is the one you'll wear every single day. Here's what to look for.
SPF and PA ratings
- SPF measures UVB protection (sunburn). Choose SPF 30 or higher; SPF 50 for long days outdoors.
- PA+ to PA++++ measures UVA protection (aging, dark spots). PA++++ is the highest.
Texture matters
Oily skin usually prefers fluids and gels; dry skin prefers creams. If you have a medium or deep skin tone, choose modern chemical or hybrid filters that leave no white cast.
How much to apply
Use about two finger-lengths for your face and neck, and reapply every two to three hours when outdoors.
Frequently asked questions
What does PA++++ mean on sunscreen?
PA++++ is the highest UVA protection grade, meaning strong defence against UVA rays that cause dark spots and premature aging.
Do I need sunscreen indoors?
If you sit near windows, yes — UVA rays pass through glass and contribute to dark spots and aging.
